25 SEP - 19 DEC 2026
Thursday – Saturday, 13:00 - 18:00
ENCHANTING COLOUR explores the creative possibilities of colour photography from the 1940s to the present day, bringing together works from the Collection De Gambs with the contemporary practice of Berlin-based artist Marta Djourina.
Featuring works by Nobuyoshi Araki, Erwin Blumenfeld, Marta Djourina, Harold Edgerton, René Groebli, Sarah Moon, Norman Parkinson, and Thomas Ruff, this group exhibition traces the evolution of colour as an artistic medium.
From hand-coloured prints and dye transfers to experimental darkroom processes, the show reveals the many ways photographers have used colour to move beyond the representation of reality.
At the heart of the exhibition is the work of Marta Djourina, whose camera-less photographic practice explores light and colour. Her abstract compositions enter into dialogue with historical works from the Collection De Gambs, creating a vibrant encounter between different generations of photographic experimentation.

YARAT Contemporary Art Space is pleased to present Programmed Traces group exhibition curated by Fırat Arapoğlu. Bringing together seven leading Bulgarian artists – Albena Baeva, Jelko Terziev, Kalina Dimitrova, Krassimir Terziev, Marta Djourina, Nadezhda Lyahova, and Pravdolub Ivanov – the exhibition explores how contemporary visual culture, perception, and subjectivity are increasingly shaped by systems of control, technological mediation, and situated forms of knowledge production. Through moving image, installation, and multi-layered visual environments, it reflects on how space, image, and the viewer’s body are no longer separate from the structures that organize information, attention, and experience.

Photography can amaze us, make us doubt, or make us believe. It’s not just the image that plays a role in our response, but also photography’s materiality. Digital processes and the use of artificial intelligence increasingly question the object nature of photography.
What makes a photograph special? What is it made of? In its Photography Collection, the Kunstbibliothek (Art Library) preserves a wide range of the most diverse photo objects, whose stories and reception histories are in constant flux. Starting with a material history of photography, the exhibition addresses aspects of techniques, collective memory and knowledge culture, covering the history of the medium from its beginnings to the present day.

Whenever photography undergoes seismic shifts and is forced to reinvent itself, it tends to hark back to one of the oldest photographic procedures: the photogram. One way to explain the current resurgence of the photogram, would be that it leads us to the core of the photographic system. In the photogram light is simultaneously theme and medium, form and content: it is photography reduced to its bare essence as ‘writing (playfully) with light’. However, this ‘retour aux sources’ should by no means be understood as a nostalgic throwback. The current photogram functions as a playground to critically engage with (and against) the transformations that define our cultural and visual environment. Defined by the ever-increasing ease and autonomy by which self-sufficient operating systems create images, the five artists presented in this exhibition are eagerly looking for some kind of (material) resistance, a way of being challenged by a hands-on procedure that leaves room for the disruptive intervention of forces outside of their control. They celebrate light and color, embrace chance, manipulate cameras and scanners, examine the relationship between body, technology, materiality and image-making. In all these experiments, the artists trigger the unruly automatism of the photogram to create an unstable environment where anything can happen.

AIRSPACE No.1 is a decentralized exhibition project that takes art beyond the conventional white cube and into the open sky. For its first synchronized launch, artists in Berlin and Shanghai create interventions using extremely lightweight paper “white cubes,” which are released into the air using biodegradable balloons.
Taking place during Berlin Art Week Featured Night, the launch brings together 30 works across the two cities. Conceived as ephemeral, the physical works are allowed to drift and disappear, while their traces are preserved through a growing digital archive.

Residency August-September 2025
Greetings from Rostock! As part of my current RostockStipendium, I’ve currently been exploring the intersections of art and science in this International Year of Quantum — a century after groundbreaking quantum discoveries reshaped how we see the world. My residency focuses on laser light and quantum phenomena, which I translate into camera-less works on analog photo paper, turning movement into new visual languages. Looking forward to extending my research in collaboration with the Universität Rostock - Institut für Physik in September. More infos coming soon!

RostockStipendium 2025
Residency August-September 2025
Greetings from Rostock! As part of my current RostockStipendium, I’ve currently been exploring the intersections of art and science in this International Year of Quantum — a century after groundbreaking quantum discoveries reshaped how we see the world. My residency focuses on laser light and quantum phenomena, which I translate into camera-less works on analog photo paper, turning movement into new visual languages. Looking forward to extending my research in collaboration with the Universität Rostock - Institut für Physik in September. More infos coming soon!
